The primary responsibility of the Finance Department is to administer accountability to Watauga citizens. The Department’s leadership has been fantastic in that the Director and Assistant Director are both certified by the Government Finance Officers Association and their employees are well trained. The Department consists of the Finance and Accounting Division, Municipal Court Division, Marshall’s Office and the Utility Billing Division. Each area has its own list of responsibilities.

Finance and Accounting is responsible for financial reporting, payables and receivables processing, payroll, fixed assets and general ledger.  It also oversees the City’s Annual Budget and is responsible for ensuring the City is in compliance with all accounting standards.

Municipal Court serves as the judicial arm of the City and is an unbiased entity for the adjudication of cases filed. The Watauga Municipal Court serves all citizens in a courteous, efficient and professional manner and is dedicated to the principals of fair and impartial justice administered with respect and equality. The recently created Marshall’s Office consists of the Marshall and Deputy Marshall and is responsible for executing the orders and mandates of the Court with dignity and respect.

The Utility Billing Division provides customers with the best service possible for prompt administration of their utility accounts to include establishing new accounts, meter reading, customer inquiries, billing and meter box maintenance and installations. The City is currently replacing aging meters throughout the City.

The department has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association for the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the past 31 years and has received the Budget Award for the past 27 years. The professionalism this department has shown and achieved is another reason why Watauga is “A Great Place to Live”.

Traffic Signal

Traffic Signal Upgrade

The traffic signal at Watauga Rd. and Maurie Dr. has been upgraded with new video detection equipment, making traffic flow more efficient for school and rush hour traffic. The work was done through mutual aid between the City of North Richland Hills and Watauga traffic signal divisions led by Doug Dunn and Ty Cobb. Traffic control was handled by Watauga's street department for a safe installation. Mutual aid between surrounding cities promotes working together as a community, provides training opportunities and saves money.
