Mayor’s Message:

This year is flying by and as we begin another school year, I would like to remind everyone to please be cautious and considerate when driving through our school zones-we want to make sure our students are safe going to and from school.  Also, please remember to follow all school zone traffic laws and regulations.  The first day of school for students in Watauga will be as follows:

•    Birdville ISD – Monday, August 22, 2016
•    Keller ISD – Tuesday, August 23, 2016

The past couple of months have been troubling and heartbreaking for the law enforcement community all over the country, but especially in our state.  The very core of the “Thin Blue Line” which our Watauga Police Officers represent has been shaken- however, the support from our citizens, local businesses and churches has been without question, overwhelming.  I firmly believe that the support offered in the past months to the brave men and women who serve our City is sincerely appreciated. We thank our local heroes-our Police and Fire Department- for always coming to our aid in time of need.  It is because of their service that we are able to maintain the safety and welfare of our city and continue to make Watauga, “A Great Place to Live.

Construction has begun on Rufe Snow from Mid Cities Boulevard to Ridgetop Road.  This joint project with the City of North Richland Hills will widen the existing 5-lane thoroughfare to 7 lanes, similar to the portion of Rufe Snow south of Mid-Cities Boulevard. This 1.25 mile section of roadway will be reconstructed as a more durable concrete street with sidewalks along both sides, signalization improvements at the major intersections, and all necessary water and sewer main adjustments. Construction is anticipated for completion in mid-2018.

While this project will greatly improve congestion in this heavily traveled corridor, the construction phase will be challenging at times for adjacent property owners and area motorists. City staff will be working closely with the contractor to expedite the process and preserve as much mobility as possible. During construction, two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times.

You can click here for updates on the project. Or please contact Watauga Public Works at 817-514-5806.

Street Construction - Bernadine Drive and Summit Ridge

During the months of July, August, and September, Bernadine Drive and Summit Ridge Drive shall be under construction.  The limits of the work on Bernadine Drive are from Chapman Road to Hightower Drive.  The limits of the work on Summit Ridge Drive are from Chapman Road to the north of the dead end street of Summit Ridge Drive.  Both streets shall have work consisting of curb repair, sub-grade repair, sidewalk repair, and new asphalt overlay of the diving surface.  Should you have any concerns during the construction, please contact the Public Works Department.  These projects are funded by the 1/4 cent sales tax for maintenance of streets and dedicated sidewalk funds.
