Mayor's Message

The start of 2018 is here and with it comes many new and renewed opportunities we can all benefit from.  So far January is proving to be quite cold, so please make sure your fireplaces and heaters are well maintained.

On behalf of the City Council and City Staff, may this New Year be filled with much peace, joy and happiness and may we all continue to work together and make Watauga, "A Great Place to Live."

#ShopWatauga Thanks You!

For the second year in a row, the City of Watauga has implemented and promoted the “Shop Watauga” campaign during the holiday shopping period that unofficially begins on Black Thursday and continues through the holidays. Shopping locally in Watauga not only supports the businesses where you love to shop, but the sales tax collected also supports Watauga’s Crime Control & Prevention, the Park Development Corporation and the Street Maintenance fund. The city utilized social media by liking Watauga’s businesses Facebook posts and sharing their posts onto the city’s Facebook page in an effort to reach even more viewers. Thank you followers for following and liking our page. Also, banner signs and bench signs were placed in different areas of the city to remind our citizens and visitors as well to Shop Watauga and support our local businesses. Thank you Watauga!

McDonald's Celebrates 30 Years in Watauga

The City of Watauga was on hand December 12 at McDonald's, located at 7040 Denton Hwy, to celebrate their 30th Business Birthday. Owner Chalmer McWilliams, Manager Caesar Ortega and McDonald's staff received a congratulatory certificate and award from city staff for 30 years of business service in Watauga. We congratulate you and wish you many more years of success in Watauga.

Watauga Rolls & Watauga Heights Center

The Watauga Heights Center is located at the intersection of Rufe Snow and Harrison Way. They are the most recent shopping center to participate with the Watauga Rolls program. They will be installing Watauga branded bicycle racks, so you will be able to ride your bicycles and park them while you enjoy some of your favorite restaurants!

Bursey Road Phase II
Phase I of the Bursey Road Construction Project should be open to traffic from Grayson Way/Serene Court to the west at the end of day on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Phase II of Bursey Road from Serene Court to Rufe Snow Drive is closed and construction on the underground storm drainage has begun. The contractor, Cidrax, Texas LLC., provided a schedule showing the project to be completed in early April 2018.

Whitley Road Phase I
The Whitley Road Phase I Construction Project from Starnes Road to just south of Oakhill Road is complete and was opened to traffic on December 15, 2017. The contractor shall be working on any future punch list items during the month of January. The City of Watauga and Tarrant County plan to re-stripe Whitley Road from Oakhill Drive to Hightower Drive later in 2018.

Rufe Snow Widening Project
The City of North Richland Hills and the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT)widening project of Rufe Snow Drive from just south of Ridgetop Road to Watauga Road is nearing the end of Phase I construction and will soon start Phase II of the project which is the west side (southbound driving lanes). Continuous dual northbound and southbound driving lanes are to be open during construction other than minor single lane closures as necessary. Our best professional opinion on the schedule for beginning Phase II is February 2018 provided the contractor strives to meet his obligations. The Contractor shall provide driveway entry signs along Rufe Snow Drive notifying motorist of business entry points where construction barricading blocks normal visibility of drive approaches. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the NRH Engineering Staff at 817.427.6400 or the Watauga Public Works Department at 817.514.5753.
