Whitley Road 3 & Bowie Street Reconstruction and Closure
Construction shall start March 29, 2021 and the contractor bid 365 calendar days to complete the project which should be complete in March 2022 pending weather delays or miscellaneous allowance revisions.
Whitley Road 3 and Bowie Street shall be closed to through traffic and only open as needed for local residential traffic. The closure limits for Whitley Road are from Hightower Drive thru Chapman Road. Only the four residential homes just north of Chapman Road shall be accessible from Whitley Road during construction. Bowie Street closure limits are from US 377 to Plum Street with access for local businesses only on Bowie Street.
The project was awarded to S.A.I. Construction Inc. in the amount of $2,963,722.00 for the construction of Whitley Road 3 and Bowie Street, Paving, Drainage and Water Improvements for the base bid plus the alternate bid for solar powered pedestrian (RRFB) Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacon Warning Signs at multiple locations.
This Whitley Road 3 project reconstructs Whitley Road from Chapman Road to Near Concord Street. Whitley 3 constructs a new 16" diameter water main and a new storm drain system along the length of Whitley Road. It also constructs a new storm drain system and 8" diameter water and sewer along the length of Bowie Street. The Whitley Road 3 location is adjacent to the Bunker Hill subdivision.
This Bowie Street project reconstructs Bowie Street from Denton Hwy. to Plum Street. It constructs a new street, sidewalks, storm drain system and 8" diameter water and sewer along the length of Bowie Street. The Bowie Street portion is within the Old Town Watauga subdivision west of Plum Street.
We bid a base bid and one (1) alternate. The alternate was for Solar Powered Pedestrian RRFB Warning LED Signs at 5 locations: (1) Hightower Road at Constitution Lane, (2) Hightower Road at Bennington Drive, (3) Starnes Road at Partridge Drive, (4) Bursey Road at Indian Springs Road and (5) Whitley Road at Hickory Hill Road, in the amount of $125,000. These signs are traffic control devices used to enhance safety by reducing crashes between vehicles and pedestrians at un-signalized intersection by increasing driver awareness of potential pedestrian conflicts.
Whitley Road 3 and Bowie Street shall be closed to through traffic and only open as needed for local traffic to access their homes or private business..
