Government

The Home Rule Charter for the City of Watauga was adopted at an election held on January 19, 1980 and established a Council/Manager form of Government.  City Council consists of the Mayor and seven council members.  City Council Members are elected at large and serve two-year terms.

City Council

  • Appoint City Manager
  • Adopt the annual budget
  • Appoint members to City Boards, Commissions and Committees
  • Adopt Ordinances
  • Appoint City Secretary
  • Appoint City Attorney
  • Appoint Municipal Court Judge and Associate Judge

City Manager

  • Appoint employees of the City with Council confirmation of Department Heads
  • Prepare the annual budget for City Council review
  • Manage operations of the City of Watauga
